How it works

A spending plan that works the way you do.

SpendSquirrel gives you a clear picture of your money each month. What's coming in, what needs to go out, and what's left for everything else.

What SpendSquirrel does

SpendSquirrel is a monthly spending-plan tool. Each month you:

  • Plan your income and outgoings before the month begins
  • Track real spending as it happens
  • Compare plan vs reality at a glance
  • Use that insight to improve the next month

It is not a bank account. It does not connect to your bank unless you choose. It is a private, simple planning tool.

Who it is for

  • People in Debtors Anonymous, Under Earners Anonymous, or similar programmes who need a written spending plan
  • Anyone who feels anxious or out of control around money
  • People who have tried budgeting before and found it too complicated or too rigid
  • Households who want one shared view of their finances

Step by step

1

Set up your household

Give your spending plan a name, choose your currency, and decide whether it is just for you or for a household. Takes under a minute.

2

Add your income

Add every source of income, salary, self-employment, benefits, side income. You can add fixed amounts or use averages if your income varies.

3

Add your bills and fixed costs

Record rent or mortgage, utilities, insurance, subscriptions, loan repayments, and any other regular outgoings. SpendSquirrel shows you exactly how much is left after bills.

4

Create your spending categories

Divide what's left across the things you spend on, groceries, travel, eating out, clothing, self-care, children, savings, and anything else. You're in control of the categories.

5

Track during the month

Log spending as you go, or enter it in batches. SpendSquirrel updates your remaining balances in real time so you always know where you stand.

6

Review and improve

At the end of the month, see what matched your plan and what didn't. No judgment, just information to help you plan better next time.

An example month

On the 1st of the month, Priya spends 10 minutes setting up her spending plan. She adds her salary, her rent, her phone bill, and her debt repayment. She divides what's left across groceries (£250), travel (£80), and personal spending (£100). During the month she logs spending from her phone. On the 28th she reviews. She overspent on groceries by £30 but underspent on travel. Next month she'll adjust.
